·
You & your neighbors should keep a record of suspected
illegal activity including address of drug house, dates & times of
activity, description of activity (exchange of money, number of visitors,
weapons, lookouts, paraphernalia, syringes, etc.), description of
occupants or dealers (sex, race, height, weight), & if known, give
names of dealers or occupants of house, car licenses of occupants or
frequent visitors.
·
Call the Portland Police Drugs & Vice Unit at 823-0246
between the hours of 8am & 11 pm, Mon. - Sat. Ask about the Drug House Ordinance and if it can be used
on your problem.
·
Keep a log of every call & letter (note dates, times,
names of bureau contacts) made to the Bureau. Anonymous tips are OK, but
giving your name & phone number will usually get faster action &
is kept very confidential.
·
If you feel that the drug house is controlled by gangs, also
call the Gang Enforcement Team at 823-4106 & the Gang Hotline at
823-4112.
·
If you see any activity that is clearly dangerous or
life-threatening, or if you have strong suspicion of either, call 911
immediately.
·
Also call your Neighborhood Crime Prevention Coordinator at
823-3048 to organize a Neighborhood Watch.
·
Many times drug houses also violate public nuisance laws
(call 823-7306) or have abandoned vehicles (call 823-7309).
·
If the drug house is a rental unit, the problem could be
solved by eviction. If you do not
know the name of the landlord, you can call the Mulnomah County Property
Tax Assessment Office to find that out & then call the landlord. Call
248-3326.
·
Back up your calls with letters to elected officials, the
Chief of Police & anyone else who
might be able to help. Encourage your neighbors to join you at
meetings, write letters, or sign your letters. Credible, valid reporting
by groups of neighbors gets better results.
